FASTER, GRANDMA, GRANDMA'S GAINING ON US: The House Next Door this morning has a really cool video essay by Matt Zoller Seitz compiling movie shots where the camera follows, or chases, a character moving away from it. It's fun to identify the movies, and the juxtaposition of some of them ought to make you smile. One small nit: although the montage gets quickly to the famous Scorcese Steadicam shot from Goodfellas -- naturally the first scene after the intro -- where's the companion shot from Boogie Nights, at least portions of which fit the criteria? It's weird to see Luis Guzmán appear for, I think, Carlito's Way, but not for Boogie Nights. I guess Seitz wanted the other Steadicam shot from Boogie Nights, but I think the comparison of the two -- something about which I had never given much thought -- would have been nice.
