NOT FIRED UP: I like Josh Schwartz, and I really liked Kristen Kreuk on Chuck, so I thought I'd probably give Hitched a try. Then I read that the show has cast Sharon Lawrence as Kreuk's mom. Lawrence was just fine as hard-ass D.A. Sylvia Costas in N.Y.P.D. Blue, less fine as Dennis Franz's suffering wife in N.Y.P.D. Blue, and the worst thing about everything she's been in since. She is a charter member of the fraternity of actors and personalities whose work I just cannot bear, irrespective of the quality of the surrounding production -- a group whose roster includes Billy Crystal, Sally Field, Coach from Survivor, Robin Williams, Trump, and Tyra Banks. So long, Hitched, it's been good not knowin' ya.

That's not a bad list. My list includes Helen Hunt, Jack Black, Robin Williams and Jay Leno.  Though Ben Stiller is on notice.

Ben Stiller absolutely was on my list until I watched Tropic Thunder on cable late at night.  I was surprised to find myself enjoying it and not noticing him being terrible in it.  So he's on probation.

I agree, Ben Stiller was not terrible in Tropic Thunder.  I would, however, maintain that Jack Black was.

I guess Black is still coasting for me on the strength of the reversal at the end of High Fidelity.

  5. It was a lame character for Black.  Stiller can play dumb and egotistical well -- see Zoolander.

    Why the Tyra hatin'?

Cannot agree with Billy Chrystal, Sally Field or Robin Williams

<span>Black was good in High Fidelity and decent in a few other things, but on the Scale of Palpable Comedic Desperation, he went from Normal to Robin Williams very, very quickly. That sort of desperation from comedians is extremely off putting to me.

Wake me up when Tyra stops lobbying for the Nobel Peace Price through her television show about modeling.  Actually, wake me up when she stops firing girls for being prettier than her.

  9. That's right: you prefer Pretty to Pretty-Ugly.  You were pro-Caridee and anti-Shandi.

  10. My list includes Andie MacDowell (not a problem since she seems to have disappeared from movie screens in the last decade).

I love Tyra.  I cannot explain it.  I feel like I want to be her friend, though I would be terrified around her.

My list also includes Billy Crystal, Robin Williams, Nicholas Cage (and, OMG, is the ban strong with this one) and Ben Stiller on notice, and I'd add Owen Wilson on notice, though that may be due to the number of collaborations with Ben Stiller. As for women, there really aren't many (aside from your dime a dozen Paris Hilton caliber "actresses"). Sandra Bullock was placed on it after Hope Floats and Miss Congeniality, but I caved and saw the Blind Side. Between that and her asshat of a husband, I've given her a temporary reprieve.

    Kate Hudson.

My list includes Jerry Lewis, Jami Gertz, Andy Dick (I just ignore him in NewsRadio), and David Spade (in anything other than the 'buh-bye' sketch).

Mr. Liekl's list also includes Andie MacDowell, which makes me sad when I realize he'll never appreciate Groundhog Day.

Sylvester Stallone and Jean Claude van Damme. Ugh.

Can someone explain to me the derivation (genealogy) of "asshat."  I appreciate it, it makes me smile.  Now, where and how did it enter the language.

  18. My first encounter with "Asshat" was at TWOP, I believe.  And the derivation would be "one whose head is so far up one's ass that one is, in essence, wearing one's ass as a hat."

Mine is Angelina Jolie (I can't explain it, she's just always so...icky), Andy Dick, and borderline Sean Penn.

Spacewoman I'll echo Kate Hudson and add Matthew McConaughey.  Scarlett Johanssen is on notice, as is Sean Penn, Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise.

    <span><span><span>

Tom Cruise, Nicolas Cage (he's intolerable to me), Helen Hunt (post Mad About You),  Matthew McConaughey, Gerard Butler and any Pitt/Jolie combination - all bring out immediate and extreme avoidance behaviors.  I'm sure there are more, but I've apparently blocked them from my memory.  (Hmmm, the theme seems to be self important, preening  actors)

And anyone who plays Batman or even moreso, a villian in a Batman movie, gets automatically put on notice until they redeem themselves in another role.

  25. Nic Cage is just offensive.  He makes every movie he is in 10x worse then it could have been.

I just don't understand why he has a carreer.

He is #1 on the list of reasons why nepotism in Hollywood sucks..... and that is no short list!

Think Matt is right, although I can't say that I know. I grew up in Texas/Oklahoma, and from what I remember, it was used pretty often. Of course, I grew up with a mom who also regularly says "Well, shit fire and save matches," and "My mouth is as dry as a popcorn fart," so maybe it was just more common in my household. ;)
