NEITHER FEATURED IN CHELSEA CLINTON'S WEDDING COVERAGE: Two items of note from the NYT Sunday Styles section today:
  • What I believe is the first reference to a profile subject (not in the wedding announcements section) having, or at least claiming to have, "a friend with benefits." (And man, do those two dudes sound douchey.)
  • An analysis of 30 words you might not expect to have appeared in an NYT announcement but have, including what, as far as we can all hope, will be the only reference to iCarly ever to appear in the wedding announcements. (It also provides a link to WeddingCredential, which lets you search the last 3,910 announcements to appear, and which I'm sure will yield interesting results in y'all's hands.)

  1. Remarkably douchey.  Reading between the lines, they hit on the reporter, and she wrote this to sneer at them.  ("After they left, another pool man said the two always seemed to leave alone. 'I’ve seen other guys get girls here,' he said, adding that Mr. Weinstein and Mr. Altschuler 'are usually on their own.'")

I liked this one, after searching for Winona (as in Minnesota, where many of my relatives have gone to college at St. Mary's and St. Teresa's).

More douchey than a summer's eve.  To paraphrase Nigel Tufnel, "It's like, how much more douchey could they be?  And the answer is none.  None more douchey."

this might be the most cringeful article I've ever read

these guys regularly rent a room at a hotel - which they don't use - just to gawk at and fail at hitting on women?

It's beyond douchey, it's actually quite sad

I sure hope that guy's friend with benefits isn't harboring any hope that it'll turn into anything.

  6. Wow.  So I'm not in the only wedding announcement with the phrase "good in bed".

  7. Sorry to be so blunt, but isn't every word in this story other than "SUNY Albany," "fraternity bothers," "38" and "39" redundant?

I like that searching for the word "straight" leads to marriage announcements for at least five same-sex couples.

And yes, those men are sad. And douchey.

  9. It should be noted that my company seems to have has blocked WeddingCredential on the grounds that it contains "potentially damaging content".

  10. What the HELL is going on with the Sunday Styles??  Last week- Snooki and this week, these two douchebags??  (And really, there is no better word for these two.  The word may have been invented to describe this two particular people.)

Adam- your wedding announcement sold a book. I said, "hey, I know that dude from AC so maybe I'll buy her book." Yes, my reading requirements run deep.

I actually started reading Jen after I started reading this blog. I think there was a thread where a bunch of people said they found this blog from Jennifer Weiner's website, so I decided to check out this Jennifer Weiner (and I'm glad I did)

So glad I was not the only one cringing while reading about the douchebags. I found that article totally bizarre.
