IMAGINED:  Vanity Fair's David Kamp "profiles" John Lennon in advance of (what would have been) his 70th birthday next month.

There's a fine line between alternate history and fanfic.

Ugh, that's one of the most awful things I've read in years. Can't believe that anyone actually published it.

I think maybe I should be offended, but it made me think for a few minutes about why life would be better with John in it than out of it, and that, my blog-reading friends, is always a good thing.  John Lennon I miss you.

Doesn't this seem like a good writing assignment? Pick an influential person from the last 50 years and write about them in the present, as if they were still alive. It's an interesting approach to commemorating his birthday, but it's also kinda creepy. It's like a television drama when you return the next season, but it's 30 years later.
