HATES QUITTING; DON'T QUIT: TJ Lavin, a professional BMX rider and host of MTV's Real World/Road Rules Challenge, is one of the few reality-TV hosts perfectly matched with his show. His laconic delivery counterbalances the contestants' overheated antics, he draws out better performances by encouraging effort and savaging quitters, and he openly disdains his charges. According to a story he told on Bill Simmons's podcast, he waited out a rage tantrum by perennial psychopath CT; he presided over the funniest spelling bee ever televised; he rationed his catch-phrase, "you killed it," because he knew that Simmons and his friends were using it as a metric in their RW/RR Challenge pool.

Lavin took a bad spill at a BMX tour event and is in a medically-induced coma. Hopefully he'll be better soon to calmly belittle more immature Challengers.

I have no idea who this is but hope he is able to heal quickly and fully.

This is spooky, because as I was driving in to work this morning I thought "I wish ALOTT5MA would do a post on the new season of the RW/RR Challenge, because it's awesome (in the Bachelor Pad is awesome way) and TJ Lavin is hilarious."  So sad to hear about his accident - sending lots of good wishes his way so he can return to make fun of those bozos for many more seasons.

Bella -- you should go download the B.S. Report podcast where Simmons and Jacoby interview Lavin.  It is hilarious.  Lavin basically admits that every guy on the show is on steroids, agrees to pitch a spelling bee spinoff, etc.

Isaac - doing so right now!  Sounds amazing.

  5. He was so great on the BS Report.  Very self aware and smart, but still uses "gnarly" a half dozen times in ninety seconds at one point.

This season has been really good, and one my friend's organized a great fantasy pool I'm proud to be a part of.  Get better, TJ.

I also loved that Simmons and Jacoby pitched a show that would consist solely of TJ's reactions to the "What Went Down Last Night" report that he receives every day while they're filming.

Very sorry to hear it.  I only just heard of him last week, when the husband was man-crushing on him.  He sounds like a great guy.
