Had no interest in the unsurprising result. But I enjoyed the Tom Jones appearance, the J-Lo cameo wuth her hubby, and the little bit with Casey and James arguing over whose exit was more shocking. In other words, the "filler" was more entertaining than the climax. Which sort of summarizes the entire season.

By the way, adding to the list of actions that don't match a song's lyrics: Giddily singing Tom Jones' "Delilah" -- about a man who stabs his wife's lover to death -- as if you were just boozing it up with a bunch of drunken friends in a pub.

  2. Actually, that coronation song featured a distinct lack of dreams, fairies, and rainbows.  Rather, it featured a love that is [----------this big----------]

Anyway, I overall enjoyed the finale.  Substantially better guests than usual, and really, a little something for everyone.  The Idol guys can't sing together worth a damn, but the Idol ladies sounded very good en masse.

This show is over-produced, but under-directed.   When the winner was announced we barely got a shot of him. They kept cutting to his parents and a wideshot of his hometown.  The huge screens all over the stage made it impossible to focus on the singers...or get a camera shot where you could isolate the singers I suspect.    Anyway...glad it's over, frankly!  I've been frustrated for weeks, but some strange neurosis made me unable to stop watching.  :)

Love, love, loved the Jack Black, Casey duet.   And Beyonce is insanely gorgeous.
I hope I won't watch next year.  But I've said that before.

Did you catch the shots of the teleprompter in the background saying "La La La La La La La La La La" during that one? That cracked me up.
