MACHO SADNESS: Randy Savage, the dynamic wrestler equally captivating (and gonzo) as heel and face, died this morning in a car accident. He was 58.

Macho Man, Owen Hart, Andre the Giant, the British Bulldog, Bam Bam Bigelow, the Big Bossman, Yokozuna, Road Warrior Hawk, Mr. Perfect, Miss Elizabeth, Booger, el Gigante--waaaay too many of the people I associate with watching wrestling growing up didn't make it to 60.  I pretty much stopped watching professional wrestling after Hart's accident, but my view of it just continues to get tainted.

RIP Macho Man. That Wrestlemania III match he had with Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat is a classic to this day. An utterly larger than life character.

Be it from the toll of the lifestyle or the damage to their bodies or minds, there are far too few wrestlers who make it to the Wrestler's Old Age Home.

  6. He was a better than average wrestler, but his real skill was in creating a compelling character. Dan McQuade suggests that in his honor, schools celebrating graduations this weekend should play his theme music for the processional.
