TAKE ME TO 30 ROCKEFELLER CENTER, PLEASE: NBC has signed Cash Cab host Ben Bailey for its upcoming game show Who's Still Standing?, an adaptation of an Israeli show involving trivia and trap doors you can see here.

The last time we imported a game show concept from Israel, FWIW, was Survivor Israel's pioneering of the "Island of the Dead" concept, which became Survivor 22's Redemption Island.

  1. Mark Wahlberg must be feeling really confused right now...

  2. As I think I've noted here before, your dream of simply happening to hail the Cash Cab is in vain. The show is cast (though not through traditional auditions).

I enjoyed that they made an English-language promo to sell the show, and had the puzzles in English, about US facts, and with the people speaking English, but didn't at all attempt to find people who could speak English without a heavy accent or worry about getting genuine reactions. It leads you to believe that people in foreign countries play game shows in English about US history and laugh insanely quite a lot.

Also, I like that they had to change from Still Standing to something else thanks to the show Still Standing, which featured Mark Addy, a guy who could (often but not always) speak American-accented English, but who in real life has a heavy English accent, and also featured a character who pretended to have an English accent but in the show eventually didn't. The only thing better would be if there could be some way to tie House in, so I could comment on Hugh Laurie's perfect American accent.
