'CAUSE YOU ASK FOR IT: Via commenter Saray comes word that Sara Bareilles will replace Nicole Scherzinger this fall on The Sing-Off's judging panel. My only experience with Bareilles-as-personality was her between-song patter and general goofiness at Philadelphia's July 4 concert this month ... and this girl's got spunk.

Saray adds: "For what it's worth, everyone in the a cappella world is rejoicing. When the discussion began in the community about a replacement, Sara Bareilles was everyone's first choice - she's thoughtful and talented, and has a background in a cappella (she performed in UCLA Awaken while she was in college)."

  2. She's really deserving of more success than she's had--"King of Anything" is just a spectacular song, and you can immediately hear its a cappella roots in there.

So excited to hear this!! I expect her comments will be intelligent and knowledgeable, and not just about whether the singers seemed sexy.

But, she still won't write you a love song. Even though you asked for it, or because you needed one.

I listen to her music and can instantly visualize an a cappella arrangement.

But perhaps I know who will hold her heart.

And she might even walk the seven seas if there's a reason to.

  8. I watched maybe 30 seconds of a Graham Norton the other night that featured Tom Hanks, Simon Pegg and Nicole S. Honestly, she was unbearable. Is she any good at being on camera? I don't know if she was just intimidated by the company, but all she could do was plow ahead through her rehearsed soundbites, and was unable to react to any of the jibes Hanks or Pegg threw at her. She'd just keep telling her story. She's certainly very pretty, but does that compensate for her inability to go with the flow?

Anyway, I don't watch any of these shows, so it doesn't really affect me, but it surprised me. I've heard people say good things about her, and she seemed REALLY uncomfortable.

  9. Personally, I think that many, many people would be a big improvement over Nicole S., who was the one weak link on the Sing-Off panel. The fact that the replacement is someone as good as Sara B. sounds like she should be is just icing on the cake.

The concept that X Factor has both Nicole and Paula Abdul on its panel is just mind-blowing to me, and not in a good way.

I love this news and I think it makes so much sense.  And what a nice surprise -- that the replacement judge is more knowledgeable about the field than the original!
