IF THAT'S MY PRAYER BOOK, LORD LET US PRAY:  Fans of palindromic bass lines, mbaqagana, and all that is good in this world will be delighted to hear that Paul Simon plans a 25th anniversary Graceland concert tour for 2012 with Ladysmith Black Mambazo and others.

The original tour was my first rock concert at the Spectrum.  I will assuredly be in attendance for the sequel.

Update: Just realized that today (Thursday) is Simon's 70th birthday.

Adam, I've been waiting for this post all day. I missed the original tour but when I saw this announcement I immediately emailed a bunch of people to let them know that it was essential we get tickets for this show. I cannot wait.

  2. I actually hope he keeps it kind of intimate.  I saw him several years back when he toured in support of "You're The One" at the Beacon, and that was just a wonderful environment.  He could assuredly sell out the Garden, but a smaller environment is better for him, I think.

  3. I'm seeing him in about a month at the Rosemont Theatre, near Chicago (closer to O'Hare, actually). Maybe because I spent my life listening to his body of work at dinner as a compromise between classical and the rat pack, but the majority of his work has always seemed smaller venue to me. I still have the Concert in Central Park on regular rotation on my iPod (big, big, big!!!), but I'm excited to see him in a smaller venue next month. I'm looking forward to seeing where he's playing for this Graceland tour, and maybe we'll marshall the troops again.

Graceland was the first problems-of-old-people album I loved, and probably is also the last.

Adam, I was at that Spectrum concert, too, and I still remember the performance of "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes," featuring Ladysmith Black Mambazo, as one of the most wonderful expressions of pure musical joy I've ever seen.

  9. P.S. Where's the Unnecessary RemakeBot?  Did this flood its circuits?
